Sabre BGAN Loaners
 |
Immediately following the Haiti earthquake in January, Vizada made a number of Sabre BGANs available as loaners to humanitarian relief organizations. Some are still in use in Haiti, and others have been redeployed to Africa, Asia, and South America.
HumaniNet currently has one loaner Sabre BGAN (pictured) for one- or two-month projects in remote areas. Additional BGANs and satellite phones are usually available, either for loan or very low cost lease. If you have a short-term need, please contact us at info@humaninet.org.
Our loaner BGANs are deployed with organizations, individuals, or families doing humanitarian, mission, or research work for short-term and long-term projects. Past experience with BGANs is not required. We charge a small fee for assistance in setting up service and acquainting you with the BGAN. Also please see the list of expectations below.
To apply, please send an email to info@humaninet.org with the following information:
1. Your name, and the name and phone number of a contact person in the U.S. (if possible).
2. Your organization.
3. Your Web site, if you have one.
4. How long you have been in the field, and how long you expect to be there?
5. Have you used a BGAN before?
6. A description of your work in the field (maximum 100 words). You may refer to a Web page.
7. Past experience with HumaniNet and/or Vizada, if any.
8. One or two photographs will be helpful, but are not required.
9. Explain how you would use the BGAN (a very brief description, e.g., “use for email and occasional voice communications”).
10. Why the BGAN would help you.
Expectations:
1. Activation of Vizada service upon receipt of the loaner Sabre.
2. Commitment (long term loan) to use the Sabre fairly regularly, with Vizada service, for at least two years. Note: the loaners can be used only with Vizada service. The most popular 12-month plan is 120 Mb for US$786 (or $65.50 per month), and a 12-month prepaid plan with 105 Mb (or voice airtime equivalent) costs US$700. Use of the BGAN for standby communications will not qualify.
3. Return of the BGAN to Vizada or HumaniNet when you no longer need it. If you must terminate use for any reason, e.g. returning home from overseas for medical reasons, we would ask for your help in finding a new user in your country or organization.
4. The user is liable for loss or damage. (Cost of terminal is $1600.)
5. Photos of the BGAN in use, in a field setting, within a month of receiving the BGAN in your location. This is a requirement. The photos may be used by Vizada and HumaniNet, but we will not use your name and location if you prefer.
6. A brief report (or testimonial) on how the Sabre is working, within a month of receiving the BGAN in your location.
7. We ask that you refer others who may need a BGAN to HumaniNet.
