Doctor with babyIn most rural and remote areas of the world, medical and health care is outmoded, limited, or non-existent. Many initiatives are under way to bring effective care to the point of need by means of affordable communications and technology tools. While it may often be necessary to transport patients to distant clinics, as in this photo from Nepal, it is vital that patient information – symptoms, history, condition – be communicated and analyzed first.

Our colleague, Vern Gillespie, has assembled a list of medical information resources. We welcome suggestions on effective medical and health technology programs and would publish links to the most promising and useful.

Please also see our PDA and Mobility section, especially an excellent article entitled Earthquake in Iran: Using the Pocket PC for Disaster Medical Relief, authored by Dr. Keith R. Bucklen.
