Mobile Computing

back to HumaniNet ICT Information Service

The links in this section focus on Mobile Computing.  As mobile devices continue to evolve, we will present information on PDA's (Palm OS, Pocket PC..), laptops, wearable computers, ruggedized computers and Tablet PC devices. These mobile devices can be used as information communication technology (ICT) tools to aid the productivity of NGO's. Access methods will include dialup, wireless and satellite.

NGO's often face unique power, size and environmental challenges when working in areas with limited communication infrastructure. Mobile device productivity is multiplied when complemented by the right applications. For example, the medical application Epocrates provides instant drug interaction data for thousands of medications on a small portable handheld that previously required thumbing through a heavy drug reference book. Future mobile technology will make the ability to communicate anywhere at any time a reality.
